Arsenal's Summer Cull: Martinelli on His Way Out as Arteta Plans Ruthless Rebuild

Mikel Arteta is wasting no time in reshaping his Arsenal squad for next season, with Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli now available for transfer as part of a sweeping summer clearout.

The 24-year-old, who arrived at the Emirates in 2019, managed 11 goals across all competitions last term but a rather telling statistic underlines his diminished role: just one of those came in the Premier League. Despite making 30 appearances in Arsenal's title-winning campaign, Martinelli featured for only 1,073 minutes in the league, suggesting he's spent more time watching from the bench than making an impact on the pitch.

The Gunners' hierarchy appear convinced Martinelli has already peaked, ending his six-year tenure in north London. His struggle for consistent starts, particularly as Arsenal claimed their first league crown in 22 years, has left him vulnerable to the exit door. With Arteta eyeing Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers as a potential replacement on the left flank, either Martinelli or fellow winger Leandro Trossard was always destined to make way.

Beyond Martinelli's departure, Arsenal are preparing to listen to offers for three additional players: Christian Norgaard, Fabio Vieira, and Gabriel Jesus. The trio represent a combined investment of £91m, yet all three are now considered surplus to requirements. Jesus, now 29 and injury-prone with just a year remaining on his contract, is valued at merely £18m-£20m—a stark reflection of his standing at the club.

The club is also weighing up the futures of Trossard and young prospect Ethan Nwaneri as part of their strategic planning.

Arteta's blueprint for summer activity is clear: the club expects to complete at least three signings, with a top-quality winger the priority, followed by a midfielder and right-back. The departures of Martinelli and others could well accelerate these moves, with plenty more potential exits still to come as the manager pursues back-to-back Premier League titles.
