Barcelona's Alvarez Hopes Premature as Atletico Star Shuts Out Transfer Noise

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, he stated: "1,000 per cent false. No one in the family has been in Barcelona. The last time was for the match against Atletico, and they returned to Madrid the next day."

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reinforced that message, pointing out that Alvarez remains laser-focused on Atletico's Champions League semi-final campaign. On his YouTube channel, Romano explained that speculation about house-hunting and pre-agreed terms with Barcelona boss Hansi Flick are wide of the mark.

"Alvarez does not want any distraction," Romano stated. "Everything is focused on the pitch and the possibility of achieving something historic with Atletico Madrid."

Romano further noted that whilst Barcelona would relish the opportunity to sign Alvarez, the financial demands involved present a formidable obstacle. All parties, it seems, have agreed to shelve substantive negotiations until after the European campaign concludes.

"There will be many rumours, but for now Alvarez is fully focused on Atletico Madrid and the Champions League semi-finals," Romano continued. "Then we will understand more because all doors remain open for his future. But now is not the time for final decisions, it is time to focus."

When quizzed about his future by reporters recently, Alvarez offered a characteristically measured response. "These are things that get said, then they spread like wildfire on social media," he said. "I'm happy. I'm thinking about the day-to-day and working to give my best here."

The subplot gains extra significance given that Arsenal face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday evening—a fixture that will surely command Alvarez's undivided attention for the foreseeable future.
