Milan Join Arsenal's Chase for Real Madrid Prospect Valdepenas

Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the summer transfer saga surrounding Real Madrid's promising young defender Victor Valdepenas, confirming that Arsenal remain firmly in the picture—though they now face fresh competition from Serie A.

The Gunners have already bankrolled a significant overhaul, splashing over £250m on fresh talent during the summer window. That investment appears to be paying dividends, with Arsenal sitting four points clear at the Premier League summit with a dozen matches to play. After three consecutive seasons finishing runners-up, the north London club are well-positioned to finally claim the crown.

Despite their commanding league position, Arsenal opted to keep their wallet firmly shut in January, judging that no immediate targets warranted the outlay. Nevertheless, the club is already plotting its next moves ahead of the summer window, with an eye toward reinforcing an already formidable squad.

The 19-year-old Real Madrid centre-back has emerged as a potential target, with Spanish outlet AS reporting that a competitive scramble is developing. Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have also registered their interest, alongside AC Milan, though Arsenal are understood to be leading the charge.

Romano's latest assessment, delivered on his YouTube channel, confirms the Gunners' sustained attention since October. "Arsenal are following his situation carefully to understand whether an exit could be possible in the summer transfer window," the transfer guru explained.

However, the Italian journalist has now added a significant wrinkle to the narrative. "There is also genuine interest from AC Milan. Milan are keen and are monitoring the player as well. So we have interest from both the Premier League and Serie A," he noted.
