Goretzka Summer Move Edges Closer as Arsenal Plot Midfield Overhaul

Arsenal's summer recruitment plans are taking shape, with fresh optimism surrounding their long-standing interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.

The Bavarian club's star is entering the final stretch of his contract, making a departure increasingly plausible when the transfer window opens. Though a January move fell through after Goretzka pledged to honour his commitment to Bayern for the remainder of the season, the landscape has shifted considerably heading into summer.

German journalist Christian Falk has revealed that Goretzka would prefer a Premier League destination, with Arsenal emerging as his preferred choice. Crucially, the midfielder wants to join a club capable of offering Champions League football—a criterion that eliminates Tottenham from contention.

Fabrizio Romano has provided clarity on the Gunners' broader recruitment strategy. "One thing I can guarantee is that Arsenal will work on midfielders in the summer," Romano stated, noting that the club will revisit options they considered during January's injury crisis that sidelined Mikel Merino.

However, the transfer blueprint extends beyond the engine room. Romano highlighted that a younger right-back represents an underrated priority, whilst attacking reinforcements remain on the agenda. "Arsenal are going to be active in the summer transfer window," he confirmed. "The work behind the scenes has started to prepare the summer window – right-back, midfielder and eventually something up front."

Goretzka would slot seamlessly into Arsenal's midfield architecture. With Martin Zubimendi bedded in at No.6 and Declan Rice capable of dropping deeper when required, the Gunners possess a settled defensive midfield setup. Rather than seeking an upgrade, bringing in Goretzka would enable them to rotate and manage load—his experience, leadership credentials, and winning mentality would prove invaluable as a squad option.

Should Arsenal table a formal offer this summer, Falk suggests a move is entirely feasible. The 30-year-old represents the kind of shrewd addition that strengthens depth without disrupting an already formidable European contender.
