Paz Snubs Arsenal Move, Set to Stay at Como Despite Real Madrid's Mourinho Overture

Nico Paz has firmly closed the door on an Arsenal move, with the 21-year-old Argentine intent on staying put at Como rather than joining Mikel Arteta's Gunners. The decision comes after talks between Paz and Jose Mourinho regarding his standing at Real Madrid.

The attacking midfielder has flourished in Italian football since arriving from the Bernabéu in summer 2024, racking up 19 goals and 17 assists across 75 appearances. With Cesc Fabregas' side now Champions League-bound next season, Paz is keen to extend his stay and continue his development under the former Arsenal man's guidance.

Real Madrid activated a €9million (£7.8m) buy-back clause arrangement back in November 2025, with plans to trigger it this summer. However, the landscape shifted dramatically following Mourinho's appointment as the club's new manager, replacing Xabi Alonso. The Portuguese boss has already made waves in the transfer market, securing Bernardo Silva on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Mourinho's recent conversation with Paz appears to have clarified matters, though not necessarily in Madrid's favour. Sources indicate the pair discussed the midfielder's prospects at the Bernabéu, but with Arda Guler already occupying the squad, guaranteed playing time looks far from guaranteed.

Arsenal's interest has proven unsuccessful. The Premier League champions made their approach known, yet Paz harbours no ambitions of a Premier League switch. His preference is crystal clear: another season in Italy, where he remains content and has already committed to Fabregas' project.

Negotiations between Madrid and Como continue, though no final resolution has been reached. Paz has informed his parent club of his wish to remain in Lombardy for at least another campaign, with the prospect of European football adding further appeal.
