Arsenal Circle Bernardo Silva as Free Agent Prize, But Old Trafford Move "Never Happening"

Bernardo Silva is set to become one of summer's most coveted free agents, and now Arsenal have thrown their hat into the ring alongside Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the Manchester City midfielder.

Silva's current deal at the Etihad runs until the end of the season, with his departure already confirmed. His performances this campaign have been nothing short of brilliant, and his exit will sting City as they lead the Premier League charge.

The Portuguese star's previous links to Barcelona, PSG, and Saudi Arabia have been well documented, but the Gunners' emergence as suitors adds an intriguing wrinkle. Mikel Arteta's prior working relationship with Silva during their time together at City has fuelled speculation of a potential reunion.

Journalist Pete O'Rourke suggests Arteta is actively pursuing the midfielder, citing the manager's admiration for his abilities. However, the deal has been labelled unlikely to materialise. "I think it's more likely he moves abroad," O'Rourke explained. "I don't think it would go down very well at Manchester City if Silva was to leave and go to Arsenal. That would be a sensational transfer if that was to happen. Obviously, Mikel Arteta knows all about Bernardo Silva having worked with him, but yeah, I don't see any chance of him making the move to the Emirates."

Barcelona's appetite for free transfers makes them the favourites at this stage, with a move to Catalonia feeling increasingly probable.

United's Slim Hopes

Any prospect of Silva joining Manchester United can be firmly ruled out, according to Red Devils legend Nicky Butt. The former midfielder dismissed the notion entirely, citing both practical and emotional factors.

"He's a player that everyone would like," Butt told Paddy Power. "He looks like a likeable team-mate that everyone loves. He's a phenomenal, phenomenal footballer. Looks like a really good human being as well."

"Any football club in the world that wants someone like that on their books, it'll never happen, coming to Man Utd. He's got too much respect for Man City to do that. I don't even think he'd fit into the system of Man Utd's play. And with Bruno in his position, you can't play them both in the same team, can you."

The prospect of Silva donning red at Old Trafford appears dead in the water.
