Arsenal Eye Alvarez as the Final Piece: Summer Swoop on Atletico Striker Planned

Arsenal have identified Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez as a key target to strengthen their assault on the Premier League title, with reports suggesting a concrete plan is already in place to bring the striker to north London.

Arteta's side have enjoyed a stellar campaign so far, sitting six points clear of Manchester City in the race for their first top-flight crown since 2004. Having finished as runners-up for the past three seasons, Arsenal appear poised to finally end their lengthy wait for silverware.

Viktor Gyokeres, despite leading the Premier League scoring charts with five goals, has underwhelmed given the expectations placed upon him. With the January window presenting an opportunity for reinforcements, Arteta has already signalled his intent. "The window is there. I mean, we are Arsenal and we have to be looking at it. We have to be actively looking and then, whether we can do it or not, that's a different story," the manager said earlier in the transfer period.

While Arsenal have remained quiet on the incoming front this month, they're unlikely to pursue a marquee striker signing before the season's halfway point. Instead, their focus appears firmly fixed on the summer market, where Alvarez remains firmly on the radar.

According to Spanish reports, Arsenal view the Argentina international as "the missing piece" to complete Arteta's jigsaw. The Gunners are exploring "possible creative solutions," including the prospect of player exchanges, to reduce the financial burden of any potential deal.

Despite recent dips in form, Alvarez continues to attract attention from Europe's elite. His representatives, however, are understood to prioritise a club offering genuine sporting ambition—one where the 24-year-old can recapture his best form and deliver consistent performances.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are reshaping their own squad. Having already secured Ademola Lookman's arrival, the Spanish side are in advanced discussions with Al-Hilal over a loan deal for striker Marcos Leonardo, complete with a €40m purchase option. The club is keen to add the Brazilian to their ranks alongside their recent recruit from Atalanta.
