Arsenal in Talks Over Loan Move for Hearts Sensation James Wilson

Arsenal have entered discussions with Hearts over bringing teenage sensation James Wilson to the club on loan before the winter window slams shut, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

The Gunners have stretched their advantage at the summit of the Premier League to six points clear of Manchester City, whilst Aston Villa have tumbled seven points adrift of Mikel Arteta's runaway leaders.

The north London side invested more than £250m during the summer recruitment drive in their quest to finally deliver Arteta with sufficient firepower to end their long wait for Premier League silverware. That drought has been particularly galling given three consecutive runner-up finishes, and this campaign felt different – until questions began surfacing about their cutting edge.

Summer arrival Viktor Gyokeres has cut a frustratingly blunt instrument in front of goal, managing just six strikes across 22 Premier League outings and five more in eight fixtures across all competitions. The Swedish international's tally has fallen short of what many anticipated when he arrived.

Romano revealed the development on X on Monday, writing: "EXCL: Arsenal open discussions with Hearts FC on Scottish talent James Wilson, 18 year old striker already capped for the National Team. Initial loan deal being discussed club to club."

The teenager boasts eight goals from 45 senior appearances for the Tynecastle club and, despite his international experience, would likely require time to settle into the Arsenal machinery rather than immediate first-team football.

Yet the concerns surrounding Gyokeres' output have not gone unnoticed. Patrick Vieira, the former Arsenal midfielder, recently aired his worries about the No. 9's struggles to consistently find the net in the Premier League.

"Of course it is a concern because you want your No. 9 to score goals," Vieira told Sky Sports. "You want them to get into double figures and that's not the case right now. That is the concern but Arsenal are still top of the league so that means they are doing something good. It's a collective game and there's a lot of players with four or five goals."

Vieira suggested the solution extends beyond simply acquiring another striker. "They need to create more for the strikers and put them in better positions to create chances and score goals. By doing that maybe you need the ball in the box more rather than recycling the ball. They have a physical presence so they need more balls in the box and more players in the box."
