Rodrygo Staying Put at Real Madrid as Arsenal's £52m Bid Falls Flat

Arsenal's transfer ambitions have hit a wall with Rodrygo set to rebuff any move away from Real Madrid this month, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners, who sit six points clear atop the Premier League after a stirring 3-2 comeback victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, have reportedly tabled a €60m (£52m) package to tempt the Brazilian winger to north London. The club's pitch emphasises guaranteed minutes, a starring role in attack, and the chance to challenge for silverware across Europe.

Yet Romano's latest update delivers unwelcome news for Mikel Arteta's side. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer authority was emphatic: "Rodrygo will not leave Real Madrid in January. That's 100 per cent guaranteed, 100 per cent decided already between the player, his agents, Xabi Alonso."

The Real Madrid boss has overseen a remarkable transformation in Rodrygo's performances over recent months, with his attitude and standard of play markedly improved. That rapport between manager and player appears the decisive factor keeping him in the Spanish capital through the winter window.

Arsenal aren't alone in their pursuit. Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal have tabled a similarly structured proposal, though their offer includes substantially more lucrative financial terms—a factor Rodrygo's representatives are weighing carefully. Real Madrid, for their part, aren't desperate to move him on, though they're willing to listen if the right offer materialises.

Manchester City previously explored the possibility last summer before Savinho's transfer fell through, while Paris Saint-Germain also tracked the winger as a contingency should Bradley Barcola depart.

Romano suggested the picture could change come summer, though nothing concrete is being prepared currently. Much will depend on how the second half of the campaign develops and Brazil's World Cup campaign, but the bond between Ancelotti and his charge remains strong. For now, Arsenal will have to look elsewhere to bolster their title push, with Manchester City just four points adrift and Chelsea waiting on Sunday.

With Aston Villa second, six points behind the leaders, the race remains competitive—but Rodrygo won't be the one tightening Arsenal's grip on it.
