Bayern Munich's Kompany Wins Race for Frankfurt's Brown Despite Arsenal's £250,000-a-Week Offer

Arsenal's summer recruitment ambitions have suffered a setback after failing to lure Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown to North London, despite a determined push from Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta.
The Gunners, riding high after last season's Premier League title win, have been keen to bolster their left-back options ahead of the campaign ahead. Brown, the versatile 22-year-old Germany international, appeared on their radar earlier this month when The Athletic flagged him as a potential target.
What followed was a concerted courtship effort. Arteta and Berta personally engaged in multiple Zoom calls with the Frankfurt defender's representatives, laying out what amounted to a financial package difficult to refuse. Arsenal dangled a £17.5 million signing-on fee plus approximately £250,000 per week in wages—a substantial proposition by any measure.
Yet the player's camp remained unmoved. According to reports, Brown and his advisors ultimately felt unconvinced by Arsenal's tactical direction and broader sporting vision, despite the eye-watering sums on offer.
Instead, the left-back has opted for Bayern Munich and a reunion with manager Vincent Kompany. The Bavarian club has already secured a long-term agreement with Brown through 2031, and the pair have held what sources describe as positive discussions about his role in the project.
Bayern's interest, however, comes at a considerably lower financial cost to the player than what Arsenal tabled. The clubs are now in advanced negotiations over the transfer fee, with Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche initially demanding around €60 million. Bayern are working towards a deal believed to fall below the £55 million mark.
Complicating matters further, Bayern have simultaneously made Canadian international Alphonso Davies available for transfer—a move that has raised eyebrows across the continental game given Davies' standing at the club and his recent lucrative contract extension.
