Arsenal are weighing up an audacious swoop for Barcelona's Ferran Torres, with the north London outfit viewing the 26-year-old as a viable alternative should their primary attacking targets prove difficult to land.

Having claimed their first Premier League crown in 22 years this season, the Gunners fell short in Europe when Paris Saint-Germain edged them on penalties in the Champions League final. That setback has only sharpened Mikel Arteta's appetite for reinforcements, particularly up front.

The Athletic's David Ornstein recently confirmed that despite previous suggestions Arsenal might need to balance the books through sales, the club actually possesses the financial muscle to pursue their ambitions aggressively this summer.

Torres delivered 21 goals and three assists for Barcelona across the 2025/26 campaign, but his position at the Catalan club has become increasingly precarious. Barcelona's own spending plans are accelerating dramatically, with reports indicating they're preparing a combined £191m assault to land Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez alongside Premier League duo Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon. That ambitious triple raid could well force Torres out the exit door.

Contract complications add another layer to the equation. The former Manchester City man's current Barcelona deal expires in 2027, leaving room for manoeuvre, while interest from potential suitors—Arsenal chief among them—is beginning to gather momentum.

Should Barcelona succeed in their pursuit of Alvarez, Torres could emerge as the more attainable option for Arsenal's forward line. However, securing his signature won't be straightforward. Both Aston Villa and Chelsea are also keeping close tabs on developments, meaning the Gunners face stiff competition should the winger become available.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that while a striker addition remains possible for Arsenal, other priorities take precedence. The transfer insider expects at least three summer signings, with a top-class winger leading the wishlist, followed by a midfielder and a right-back—all but certain to arrive. The striker situation, he indicates, remains fluid and will develop as the window progresses.
