Foden Commits Long-Term Future to City, Spurns Arsenal Advances

Phil Foden has put an end to speculation surrounding his future by penning fresh terms at Manchester City, turning his back on advances from a clutch of ambitious suitors including Arsenal.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has reached an agreement in principle on a new four-year contract, according to reports from BBC Sport and Sky Sports. His existing deal was set to expire in 2027, but the new arrangement extends his stay at the Etihad well beyond that point.

Foden's decision represents a rebuff to Arsenal and their manager Mikel Arteta, who were among several clubs monitoring the England international. Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and outfits from the Saudi Pro League have also cast admiring glances in his direction over the past year, but the midfielder has made clear where his priorities lie.

The breakthrough in negotiations came with the appointment of agent Rafaela Pimenta to Foden's corner—a recommendation that came via his close friend and teammate Erling Haaland. Her involvement proved instrumental in steering talks towards completion.

It has been a testing campaign for Foden, who has managed just 21 Premier League starts for City this season. His overall output across all competitions tells a similar story: 10 goals and five assists from 46 appearances in the 2025/26 campaign. Yet the club's faith in their academy graduate remains unwavering.

The midfielder's loyalty to City hardly comes as a shock, given his journey through their youth ranks to stardom. His trophy cabinet already groans under the weight of six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups and a Champions League winner's medal—all earned in a City shirt.

Bayern Munich's purported interest in Foden has also been dismissed. Journalist Christian Falk wrote last month that the Bundesliga club are not actively pursuing the City man, noting that Bayern are seeking a backup for the left-wing role behind Luis Diaz rather than an expensive first-choice option. With Luis Diaz, Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and young prospect Lennart Karl already vying for minutes on the flank, Falk questioned where Foden would realistically fit into the setup.
