Alvarez Signals Summer Stay at Atletico Despite Arsenal and Man Utd Advances

Julian Alvarez has put the brakes on any potential summer move, confirming he intends to stay put at Atletico Madrid despite Arsenal and Manchester United tabling formal offers for the Argentine marksman.

Both Premier League heavyweights are actively hunting for striking reinforcements ahead of the summer window, having encountered mixed results with their recent forward acquisitions. Arsenal's £64m Sporting CP signing Viktor Gyokeres has managed just 13 goals across 34 appearances this term—a far cry from his prolific 97-goal haul in 102 matches back in Portugal. Similarly, Manchester United's £74m summer recruit Benjamin Sesko has struggled to make an impact, notching seven goals in 22 outings for the Red Devils.

Alvarez, however, appears unmoved by the advances coming his way. The 25-year-old has signalled his commitment to the Wanda Metropolitano, valuing the backing Atletico have shown him and the prominence of his role within their tactical setup.

The shift in his thinking comes courtesy of fresh negotiations from the club's new sporting director. Atletico have tabled an improved contract proposal with a salary bump, a gesture that has resonated with Alvarez and his representatives. The club's willingness to secure his future has proved decisive in keeping him onside.

That said, Arsenal are maintaining their watching brief, ready to pounce should circumstances shift in the transfer market. Barcelona are also keeping tabs on developments, viewing Alvarez as a potential attacking option down the line.

Emmanuel Petit, the former Arsenal midfielder, has backed the Gunners' pursuit, suggesting they possess a genuine opportunity to land the Atletico star. "When Julian Alvarez was at City, I really liked him," Petit told Ignition Casino. "He didn't start every game, but whenever he played he was truly special. He scores goals, creates assists, and he's got that temper, personality and character."

Petit believes an Alvarez arrival would represent a significant coup for Arsenal. "If Arsenal have a chance to get him, with the Spanish-speaking contingent at the club and the way they operate up front, that would be excellent news," he added. "It would be a tremendous addition and a real statement of intent."
