Lineker: Eze's Cool Head and West Ham's Grit Could Decide Arsenal's Title Destiny

That gap would exist only temporarily. City's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton was scheduled for the same weekend, positioning them to play after Arsenal in the next round of fixtures. The mathematical advantage currently sits with Pep Guardiola's side, but Arsenal's run-in appears marginally more favourable on paper.

Gary Lineker has been analysing the title race aftermath, and his assessment suggests the outcome remains genuinely unpredictable. The Match of the Day presenter points to two factors that could prove pivotal: the mental resilience of Arsenal's players and the threat posed by supposedly weaker opposition.

Lineker highlighted a concerning trend in Arsenal's recent performances. "They're not really creating chances like they did earlier in the season," he observed on The Rest is Football podcast. "Whether it's nerves or a dip in confidence, there's a real edge to them." Yet he acknowledged that securing three points—the fundamental metric—remains what matters most.

Arsenal's final four matches comprise Fulham at home, West Ham away, Burnley at home, and Crystal Palace away. While three of those fixtures appear winnable, Lineker stressed that West Ham's current form makes their trip to the London Stadium a potential banana skin. The Hammers, fighting relegation, have compiled a record since January that rivals most sides in the division. "That will be tricky," Lineker warned.

The contrast with Manchester City's remaining fixtures is marginal enough that Lineker sees the title race as genuinely competitive. "It's pretty much 50-50," he concluded, acknowledging City's proven ability to perform when stakes are highest during the run-in.
