Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have emerged as the favourites to land Real Madrid's rising defensive talent Víctor Valdepenas, though they'll have to fend off serious interest from across Europe to get their man.

The 19-year-old Spanish Under-19 international has caught the attention of several heavyweight clubs, with Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and AC Milan all keeping tabs on his development. However, the Gunners hold the strongest hand in what's becoming an increasingly competitive transfer pursuit.

Valdepenas made his Real Madrid first-team debut in December, starting at left-back against Alaves in La Liga on the 14th.
