Arsenal Lead Hunt for Blackburn's Tyjon as Kacurri Handed Exit Door

With Arsenal sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, Mikel Arteta's side are eyeing fresh firepower in the January window. The north London outfit currently hold a commanding 14-point advantage over fourth-placed Liverpool, with Manchester City and Aston Villa trailing by six points in second and third respectively.

Having received substantial backing last summer that brought eight new faces to the Emirates, Arsenal are now casting their net wider. Arteta has made it clear the club intends to remain vigilant in the market. "The window is there, I mean, we're Arsenal and we have to be looking at it, OK, 'What do we need?' And we have to be actively looking, and then if can we do it or not, that's a different story," the Spaniard explained. "But our job is to be always very prepared because something can happen, so hopefully very positive."

One name circulating in the corridors is Blackburn Rovers' young striker Igor Tyjon. Reports suggest Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners in the race for the 17-year-old talent, who has managed just a single senior appearance this season. The Gunners previously lodged two bids for Tyjon last summer, with their second offer reaching approximately £2.2 million before being rejected.

According to transfer sources, the highly-rated prospect has repeatedly turned down fresh contract proposals from Rovers and is eager for a fresh challenge elsewhere. A meeting between his representatives and Blackburn just three days ago confirmed his determination to move on. A fee in the region of £1 million is being touted as achievable, with Arsenal keen to add him to their youth development ranks to compete alongside Andre Harriman-Annous.

The Athletic has corroborated Arsenal's continued interest, noting that while their summer approaches were rebuffed, Tyjon's rejection of a professional contract with the Championship side has opened the door for a potential January switch.

Meanwhile, there's movement in the opposite direction at the club. Midfielder Maldini Kacurri has been given the all-clear to depart on loan or permanently this month. The 20-year-old Albanian international impressed during his first-half campaign at Morecambe, collecting two Player of the Month accolades. Arsenal are now prepared to facilitate his exit as they look to capitalise on mounting interest in his services.

Kacurri has already featured in Arsenal's first-team plans, featuring in the September 2024 victory over Tottenham and later that month coming off the bench to replace Riccardo Calafiori in a League Cup encounter against Bolton.
