Arsenal Ready to Make Alvarez Push as Atletico Demand €150m

The race for Julian Alvarez's signature is heating up, with Arsenal now plotting to muscle in on a transfer battle that has Barcelona firmly in the picture.
The Gunners are gearing up to initiate talks with Atletico Madrid over bringing the Argentine striker to the Emirates, according to reports emerging from Spain. Atletico sporting director Andrea Berta is ready to field offers for the 26-year-old, though the Spanish outfit are asking for a hefty €150 million (£129.7m) to part with their prized asset.
Arsenal have long harboured admiration for Alvarez, but this marks a fresh attempt to prise him away from the Wanda Metropolitano. The north London side, buoyed by Viktor Gyokeres' stellar contribution to their Premier League title win and Champions League final appearance this season, are keen to bolster their attacking options. With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz already on the books, Mikel Arteta's side clearly feel another world-class forward could take them to the next level.
Alvarez, however, has other ideas—or so it seems. The 26-year-old is reportedly keen on a Barcelona move, though the Catalan club's pursuit has been met with defiant social media trolling from Atletico, who have made their reluctance to sell abundantly clear.
Here's the snag: despite Arsenal and PSG joining Manchester City in holding talks with Alvarez's representatives, the player's heart appears set on Camp Nou. Yet Spanish media suggests Barcelona's hopes may be fading, with suggestions that the move is becoming "practically a matter of national importance"—a curious phrase that hints at complications beyond the pitch.
The Argentine international arrives at Atletico with an impressive pedigree. He bagged 36 goals and 19 assists across 103 appearances for Manchester City, where he won the Premier League twice and claimed a Champions League title. On the international stage, Alvarez lifted the World Cup in 2022 and won the Copa America in both 2021 and 2024.
Since joining Atletico last summer, Alvarez has maintained his prolific form with 49 goals and 17 assists in 106 matches across all competitions. He remains under contract with the Spanish club until 2030, giving Atletico significant leverage in negotiations.
Arsenal view Alvarez as their dream forward signing, but they'll need to navigate a complex transfer landscape where the player's preference, Barcelona's interest, and Atletico's asking price all play a role in determining whether the Gunners can pull off this particular coup.
