Gabriel Jesus Weighs Up Summer Departure as Arsenal Struggles Mount

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has lifted the lid on Gabriel Jesus's thinking regarding his future at Arsenal, suggesting the Brazilian could depart the Emirates a full year before his 2027 contract conclusion.

The revelation comes at a difficult juncture for the Gunners, who splashed out over £250m during last summer's transfer window. Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze were among the marquee arrivals, with the striker particularly expected to make an immediate impact. Instead, the 18-goal marksman has drawn criticism from supporters and observers for his inconsistent showings since touching down in North London.

Arsenal's recent form has provided little comfort to the faithful. Three defeats in four matches have seen the club surrender the Carabao Cup final, crash out of the FA Cup to Championship outfit Southampton, and hand Manchester City a pathway back into the Premier League title conversation. The anticipated return of Kai Havertz and Jesus from the treatment table offered hope, yet results have only deteriorated.

Jesus himself has contributed four goals across 23 outings—just eight of those starts—in all competitions this term. Yet Romano's latest update suggests the attacker remains committed to Arsenal's cause for now, at least.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano outlined the situation: "Gabriel decided to go with a new agent at the beginning of 2026 to start assessing his future. He is under contract with Arsenal until 2027, but I can guarantee to you that at this stage, the player is completely focused on trying to win something with Arsenal this season. He is really obsessed by that; he loves Arsenal."

The transfer guru continued: "In the summer—not now in April or May—Gabriel Jesus could assess proposals in case of good bids for summer 2026. He could leave Arsenal one year before the expiration of his contract; that's a possibility, but it's not something he is actively searching for now. He wants to fight for titles, and then in the summer, the possibility for his exit could become concrete."

Jesus arrived at the club from Manchester City for £45m back in 2022. Should he depart, his destination remains uncertain, though he has previously expressed a longing to rejoin Palmeiras.

Discussing his future with Globo Esporte, Jesus acknowledged the shift in circumstances: "My relationship with Palmeiras has always been very good and always will be – I have immense gratitude. My desire is to one day return to Palmeiras and win even more titles, because I've already experienced the taste of winning titles at Palmeiras. And it's something that's still within me, it's a very strong desire."

He added: "I have a contract with Arsenal. Obviously, my situation at Arsenal has changed from what it was before. But my main focus today remains Arsenal, making things happen here, helping in whatever way the manager needs, and then, obviously, when the season is over, we'll start thinking about it."
