Arsenal's £5m Monga Bid Falls Short as Leicester Hold Firm on £10m Valuation

Arsenal's opening gambit in their pursuit of Jeremy Monga has been rebuffed by Leicester City, with the Midlands club standing firm on their valuation of the teenage winger.
The Gunners tabled a formal offer worth £5million for the 16-year-old, but it has proven insufficient. Leicester are holding out for approximately £10million plus a 15 per cent sell-on clause, according to reporting from The Times.
Monga has caught the attention of multiple heavyweight suitors, yet the England Under-19 international appears resolute in his ambitions. He has already rejected approaches from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City, making it clear that Arsenal represents his chosen destination.
Club-to-club discussions between Arsenal and Leicester commenced in mid-June, with both parties handling negotiations respectfully given Monga's age. The Athletic's David Ornstein reported that Arsenal were keen to conclude matters swiftly, with plans to offer a fair fee and avoid any potential tribunal complications.
The timing carries significance. Monga cannot sign professional terms with Leicester until his 17th birthday on July 10, creating a window of opportunity for Arsenal to complete the transfer before that milestone.
The winger has already demonstrated his quality at first-team level despite his tender years. Across 37 appearances for the Foxes, he has registered one goal and two assists, marking him out as a prospect with genuine potential.
Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta will be banking on Monga's evident preference for the Emirates to help unlock negotiations with Leicester. Should Arsenal successfully bridge the gap, he would become their second summer acquisition, following the imminent permanent conversion of Piero Hincapié's loan from Bayer Leverkusen into a £45million deal. The Colombian defender is currently occupied with Ecuador's World Cup campaign and has yet to be officially unveiled by the north London outfit.
