Henry Tempers Arsenal Optimism Ahead of PSG Champions League Final Showdown

Thierry Henry has delivered a dose of reality to Arsenal supporters, insisting the Gunners cannot afford complacency when they lock horns with PSG in the Champions League final later this month.

The Parisian outfit booked their place in the Budapest showpiece with a 6-5 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich, courtesy of a dramatic 1-1 draw on the night capped by a late Harry Kane leveller. For Arsenal, it marks only a second appearance in European football's premier competition final, with their sole previous outing ending in heartbreak against Barcelona back in 2006.

Speaking on CBS Sports immediately after PSG's semi-final triumph, Henry was candid about the task awaiting his beloved Gunners. "We're not in a position to pick and choose," the legendary forward explained. "We're not at the level of those guys yet so you have to be humble with it. I'm so happy we're in the final, let's see what we can do against this team because that's an outstanding team."

The Arsenal icon urged his former club to stay measured in their approach, adding: "Stay in your lane, we're not here to pick and choose, let's just hope we can beat PSG, but it's going to be very difficult."

Henry also confessed to harbouring genuine anxiety about the contest. "I woke up with a smile this morning because it's been 20 years since we got to the final," he revealed. "To be in a position to compete for the Premier League, it's been 22 years since we won it that as well."

While acknowledging Arsenal's impressive defensive record and their unbeaten run in Europe this season, Henry warned that PSG's experience as defending champions poses an entirely different proposition. "PSG though will have the experience of winning it and they won't have any fear," he noted. "Hopefully we go there and be brave but we have to beat the defending champions so it won't be easy, we know that."

The prospect of witnessing Arsenal finally achieve what eluded him personally has clearly struck a nerve. "I'm usually not too nervous but I think I will be nervous for that final because they could do something I couldn't do myself," Henry admitted. "You want your team to win and experience that. Hopefully it's going to happen but look at how PSG played tonight, they can kill you in both ways, by scoring more goals than you and by neutralising you."

Yet Henry refused to write off Arsenal's chances entirely, pointing to their clinical finishing and recent upturn in form. "Arsenal have been resilient and when we do create we score goals. It will be difficult but let's see," he concluded.

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves struck a more optimistic note on TNT Sports, suggesting Arsenal possess the tools to trouble the French giants. He highlighted Declan Rice's defensive midfield prowess as a potential game-changer, while praising the side's goalkeeper and backline credentials.

"Arsenal have a chance, without question," Hargreaves insisted. "PSG will be more attacking than they were against Bayern but this is a different Arsenal now. I think the last three or four weeks they went through that little blip. They believe now. They have a chance. They just have to believe."
