Gyokeres Demands Barcelona Exit After Faltering Arsenal Campaign

Victor Gyokeres appears determined to engineer a move away from Arsenal this summer, with Barcelona emerging as his preferred destination after a frustrating maiden campaign at the Emirates.

The Swedish striker arrived from Sporting CP twelve months ago in a transfer potentially worth £63.5m including add-ons, having fired in 97 goals across 102 appearances for the Portuguese club. However, his impact in north London has paled considerably by comparison, managing just 21 goals in 55 outings across all competitions.

While Gyokeres contributed to Arsenal's first Premier League crown in over two decades, questions have lingered about his overall influence on the team's performances. The Gunners are reportedly keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season, a move that appears to have unsettled the former Sporting man.

Barcelona circle the wagons

Spanish outlets are now claiming Gyokeres has begun demanding negotiations with Barcelona, with the Catalan club viewing him as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski. Technical director Deco and incoming head coach Hansi Flick are said to be keen admirers.

The 26-year-old has cited several grievances with his current situation. Beyond feeling he hasn't truly gelled with Mikel Arteta's system, Gyokeres has found himself consigned to the bench during pivotal moments—most notably the Champions League final, where Arteta opted for Kai Havertz instead.

When asked about transfer speculation during international duty, Gyokeres had insisted he felt "extremely comfortable" at Arsenal. That sentiment now appears to have shifted dramatically.

Arsenal's striker conundrum

The club's pursuit of additional attacking talent only strengthens the case for his departure. With Barcelona preparing a £52m bid, Gyokeres seems intent on forcing the issue before the window closes.

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has meanwhile suggested Arsenal remain title contenders but warned they lack a truly prolific number nine. Speaking to talkSPORT, Terry noted: "I think Arsenal have got a really good squad, but they're missing an out-and-out striker that's going to get in 20, 30 goals a season consistently. Look at the top sides over the last 20 years—they've all had it. Arsenal haven't really got that. They're one or two signings away from dominating the Premier League for the next two or three years."

Whether Gyokeres' exit materialises remains to be seen, but all the signs suggest his Arsenal adventure may be drawing to a premature close.
