Arsenal Ready to Move for Villa's Rogers as £80m Starting Point Emerges

Fresh momentum has built around Arsenal's pursuit of Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, with indications the Gunners could accelerate their efforts to land the England winger this transfer window.
Rogers enjoyed a stellar campaign at Villa Park during 2025/26, helping the midlanders capture the Europa League while securing Champions League football. The 23-year-old's tally of ten Premier League goals and seven assists has naturally caught the attention of suitors, with the north London club firmly among them.
Arsenal's appetite for attacking reinforcements is understandable. Having finally ended their 22-year drought without a top-flight title, the Gunners are keen to bolster their forward line this summer, and Rogers sits high on their wishlist for either left-wing or attacking midfield duties.
Interestingly, Champions League qualification has done little to convince Villa that Rogers will stay put. Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested he "expects" the move to materialise, with conversations likely to commence around the £80m mark.
"I do expect Arsenal to sign Morgan Rogers. He is Arsenal's leading target for left-wing and/or #10. My information is that Rogers has zero preference as to whether he's signed as a left-winger or a #10," Jacobs explained on the Latte Firm podcast.
"Arsenal are expected to bid & this could move quickly. Aston Villa, even with Champions League football, are looking for a major sale to balance their books. When Rogers extended last year, there was an understanding that he could leave this summer for a fee of £80m as a starting point. It's not a release clause or gentleman's understanding, but Villa had said they will not unduly stand in his way."
The journalist added that whilst £80m represents the opening gambit rather than the final word, Villa appear unlikely to dig in their heels. "I'm still told engagement will start at £80m, that's not to say it'll be the number that secures a transfer, but that is the beginning to start a conversation with Aston Villa. I think there's a very strong chance this deal happens."
However, other sources suggest the eventual fee could prove considerably steeper. Graeme Bailey has pointed out that Rogers' lack of a release clause in his November contract extension leaves Villa in complete control, potentially allowing them to demand a premium. The club view him as comparable to Florian Wirtz—the young German who departed last summer—and believe his standing among world football's elite talents warrants a price tag well north of £100m.
"There is a strong belief within the club that Rogers is among the very best young forwards in world football, and that status demands a premium fee reflective of the modern market," Bailey noted.
Arsenal's recruitment drive appears set to intensify as summer progresses, and Rogers remains firmly in their crosshairs.
