Mosquera Eyeing Gunners Exit: Everton Lead Chase for Loan Deal

Cristhian Mosquera's stint at Arsenal appears headed for a temporary exit, with the Spanish defender signalling his readiness to move on during the coming transfer window.

The 21-year-old arrived at the Emirates Stadium last summer from Valencia for £13million on a deal running through 2030, plus an additional year option. Yet despite the initial fanfare surrounding his arrival, Mosquera has found opportunities limited in north London, accumulating just 27 competitive appearances this season.

His struggles to break into Mikel Arteta's starting XI have been stark in the Premier League and continental competition. The former Valencia prospect has managed only six league starts and four Champions League appearances across the 2025/26 campaign, leaving him well down the pecking order behind Gabriel and William Saliba.

Everton have positioned themselves as leading contenders to secure Mosquera's services on a temporary basis, though they face competition from an impressive list of European suitors. Atalanta, Napoli, Benfica, Bournemouth, AS Monaco and Marseille are all monitoring the situation closely as the defender seeks a pathway back to regular football.

Arsenal's hierarchy regard Mosquera as a cornerstone of their long-term defensive plans and have no intention of selling him permanently. Should an interested party attempt a permanent transfer, the Gunners would demand €45-50million (approximately £43.5million) for the versatile defender, who is equally comfortable operating at centre-back or right-back.

When Mosquera joined the club, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta hailed the acquisition as a statement of intent. "We identified Cristhian as one of the strongest young defenders in European football," Berta said at the time. "He is a versatile defender who will strengthen our squad."

Manager Arteta echoed the sentiment, praising Mosquera's credentials and potential. "As a 21-year-old defender, Cristhian has already performed consistently well with significant experience in La Liga," the Arsenal boss noted. "He is an intelligent player with good pace, who can play centrally and on both sides. He is a young player with exciting talent and enormous potential."

Mosquera's 90 appearances for Valencia across all competitions had marked him as one of LaLiga's most promising defensive talents before his summer switch to the Premier League.
