Arsenal Circle Rashford as Man Utd's Transfer Plans Hinge on Barcelona's Financial Woes

Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Marcus Rashford's Barcelona future as the summer transfer window looms, with the winger's next destination far from settled despite an impressive campaign in Spain.

The England international has delivered 13 goals and 14 assists across 46 appearances for the Catalan side this season—a record that would ordinarily seal a permanent switch. Barcelona had earmarked a £26m fee to make the move permanent, but their chronic financial troubles threaten to derail any deal.

Should Barcelona prove unable to cough up the funds, Rashford faces exploring his alternatives. Arsenal and Bayern Munich are understood to be tracking developments closely, with Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta eyeing reinforcements down the flanks this summer.

The situation carries particular significance for Manchester United's own transfer strategy. The club cannot commit to recruiting another left-sided attacking player while Rashford's circumstances remain unresolved, despite assessing targets including AC Milan's Rafael Leao. The Portuguese forward commands a fee between £50-60m, with Liverpool and Arsenal also circling.

Leao represents one of several positions United hope to strengthen, alongside left-back, central defence, and a backup goalkeeper.

Mainoo's near-miss at the Emirates

Arsenal's recruitment ambitions extended further up the pitch. The Gunners were among the leading Premier League suitors for Kobbie Mainoo before his recent resurgence under Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.

Under Ruben Amorim's watch, Mainoo's prospects appeared bleak. The academy prospect barely featured and attracted interest from clubs across Europe, with Napoli his preferred destination should a loan move materialise.

Yet Arsenal sat at the front of the Premier League queue, keen to capitalise should Mainoo's fortunes continue deteriorating. The midfielder's trajectory would likely have taken a very different path had Amorim remained in charge.

Instead, Carrick's arrival sparked a revival. Mainoo has since reclaimed prominence and penned a fresh long-term contract, tying himself to United's future. The Gunners now face renewed competition in midfield this summer, having narrowly missed out on a talent they once viewed as within reach.
