Carragher Fears Fixture Congestion Could Derail Arsenal's Title Push Against Fulham

Jamie Carragher has raised alarm bells about Arsenal's upcoming fixture pile-up, warning that the demanding schedule could prove the undoing of their Premier League ambitions this season.

The Gunners moved back to the summit on Saturday with a clinical 1-0 victory over Newcastle United, courtesy of Eberechi Eze's composed finish from distance. That triumph has given Arsenal a three-point cushion at the top, though Manchester City have a game in hand following their FA Cup clash with Southampton.

Yet the breathing room could quickly evaporate. Before Arsenal tackle Fulham in their next league outing on Saturday, they must navigate a Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday—a fixture that leaves Carragher genuinely concerned about the toll on Mikel Arteta's squad.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender highlighted the brutal mathematics of the situation. "Playing three games in six days rather than three games in eight days is a massive difference at this stage of the season," Carragher explained. "You're playing away, you have to travel, Fulham are a good and decent side, and then you've got to go again on the Tuesday night. They've been very unfortunate the way the games have fallen."

What troubles Carragher most, however, isn't psychological fragility but physical depletion. Watching Arsenal's display against Newcastle, he detected warning signs of a squad running on fumes. "My worry watching them wasn't nerves and it hasn't been the last few weeks—mine is fatigue," he said.

The pundit believes Arsenal possess the defensive structure to frustrate opponents, particularly when their pressing is at its sharpest. Yet against Newcastle, something felt amiss. "It was far too easy for Newcastle to make passes and get to the edge of the box," Carragher observed. "It was too easy for Tonali and Guimaraes to dictate the game. To see Newcastle play with such ease at the Emirates was a worry to me and smacked of fatigue."

That sluggish performance, despite the victory, suggests the wheels could come off if Arsenal aren't careful in the coming weeks.
