Bernal Slams Door Shut on Arsenal as Gunners Face Fresh Transfer Setback

Arsenal's summer recruitment drive has suffered another disappointing blow, with Barcelona's Marc Bernal firmly rejecting the opportunity to move to the Emirates Stadium.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder has made it abundantly clear that his future lies exclusively at Camp Nou, despite the Premier League's finest circling. According to reports, Bernal has turned down overtures not just from Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, but also from Chelsea and Manchester United, all keen on securing his services in the 2026 transfer window.

The teenager has established himself as a cornerstone of Barcelona's midfield under Hansi Flick this season, accumulating 33 appearances whilst chipping in five goals and an assist. He's already tasted LaLiga glory with the Catalan outfit and earned a senior cap for Spain—impressive credentials for someone still in his teenage years.

But there's no shifting him from Barcelona. Bernal's stance is unambiguous: he intends to see out his contract, which runs until 2029, and has rebuffed every attempt at persuasion. The Spanish midfielder has made clear his "absolute loyalty" to the club, delivering the same answer repeatedly to English suitors—a polite but firm "no."

Barcelona have reinforced his position by designating him as non-transferable, with the club adamant they have never entertained the prospect of his departure. Even in the most recent transfer window, when Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal renewed their enquiries, the response remained unchanged: Bernal is going nowhere.

It's a particularly stinging rejection for Arteta, who will now need to redirect his attention elsewhere as he plots Arsenal's summer business.

On a more positive note for the Gunners, there's no movement on the Viktor Gyokeres front. Despite speculation linking the Swedish striker with a potential move away, Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are standing firm. They've made it clear that Gyokeres will only depart if an offer of truly exceptional proportions arrives on the table.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano explained the club's position: Atletico Madrid and other top European outfits have enquired about Gyokeres' availability, but Arsenal have consistently rebuffed all advances. The message from the Emirates has been resolute—Gyokeres is integral to their project and they intend to keep him.

Romano noted that whilst the situation could theoretically shift if something "big" emerges before the window closes, Arsenal's stance remains unwavering. For now, Gyokeres is staying put, and Arteta can focus on strengthening other areas of his squad.
