Olmo Shuts Down Arsenal Speculation as Gunners Plot Summer Spending Spree

Dani Olmo has moved swiftly to extinguish transfer chatter linking him with a summer switch to Arsenal, putting to rest speculation that had gathered pace this week from Spanish media outlets.

The Barcelona playmaker, who arrived at the Catalan club from RB Leipzig in summer 2024 for an initial €55m (with the deal rising to €62m), has firmly rejected any notion of departing. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, when pressed directly on Arsenal's interest, Olmo stated: "No, Barca fans can rest easy. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing to say."

Reports had suggested the Gunners were readying a €60m (£52m) package to tempt the 28-year-old away from Camp Nou, with some observers claiming a deal was close to completion. However, Olmo's unambiguous comments have effectively ended that line of speculation.

The Barcelona star's intervention comes amid a broader picture of Arsenal's summer recruitment ambitions. Having claimed the Premier League title and reached the Champions League final—only to fall short on penalties against Paris Saint-Germain—Mikel Arteta's side are preparing for another significant investment in their squad. Sporting director Andrea Berta is particularly focused on strengthening the attacking ranks, with Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers and Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez both on the radar.

Olmo, who has compiled 88 appearances, 20 goals, and 17 assists during his spell at Barcelona, used his platform to back the club's incoming business. He enthusiastically endorsed the imminent arrival of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, describing the winger as a world-class addition capable of elevating the team's standards.

"Ultimately, the best players have to play for Barca," Olmo reflected. "Gordon is a signing that will raise the team's level. These are world-class players. Anything that comes in to contribute and raise the team's level will always be welcome."

Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around Arsenal's own squad composition heading into the new season. Former Gunners favourite Paul Merson has suggested that Martin Odegaard, despite his obvious quality, could potentially move on this summer. Merson acknowledged the seeming contradiction in his assessment but reasoned that Arsenal might contemplate offloading their captain, noting that Odegaard's deep-lying playmaking role requires explosive pace in attacking positions—a commodity that may prove difficult to consistently provide.
