Olmo in Arsenal's sights as Gunners eye Barcelona's attacking reinforcements

Arsenal are reportedly circling Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo as Mikel Arteta looks to capitalise on a stellar 2025/26 campaign that saw the Gunners capture the Premier League crown and reach the Champions League final.
With sporting director Andrea Berta working alongside Arteta, the Emirates outfit are plotting an ambitious summer rebuild. The north London side have identified attacking reinforcements—particularly down the left flank—as a priority heading into the transfer window.
The future of club captain Martin Odegaard remains uncertain, creating space for Arsenal to explore fresh attacking options. Enter Olmo, the Barcelona playmaker who appears to be edging towards a switch to England's capital.
According to X account holder Enric Canyellas, who boasts nearly 35,000 followers, Olmo is drawing close to an Arsenal agreement. Posting on June 1st at 11:46am, Canyellas wrote: "Dani Olmo close to signing with Arsenal. Right now, he has a good chance of leaving. Direct information from London…"
By 1:49pm the same day, Canyellas added: "In my opinion, I'm a huge fan of Olmo, I don't want him to leave, but with Bernardo's arrival and what Barça has in the midfield, I'm at ease."
The Spanish international arrived at the Camp Nou from RB Leipzig in summer 2024 for €60million, penning a deal that runs through 2030. In 88 appearances across all competitions, the 24-year-old has registered 20 goals and 17 assists, establishing himself as a versatile attacking threat capable of operating as a number ten, left winger, right winger, or central midfielder.
However, a competing narrative suggests Barcelona have other ideas. Spanish outlet MD reports that Olmo will receive a contract extension this summer, with the club confident in retaining their prized asset. According to the publication, the midfielder's "commitment to Barca remains strong and is only getting stronger."
MD further revealed that Olmo originally accepted reduced wages upon joining Barcelona to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, turning down more lucrative offers elsewhere. The club reportedly agreed to boost his salary in his third year to reflect his importance to the squad and compensate for the financial sacrifices made during his first two seasons.
Olmo himself recently reaffirmed his devotion to Barcelona. On May 25th, he posted on social media: "Thank you, Culers, for your support throughout the year. It has been a season where we made history, 19/19 home wins in the League, winning it for the second consecutive year, just like the Super Cup. We have learned, we have grown as a team and we have the necessary experience to, next year, show that we want and can go for everything. We have a dream and a goal, and we will give it our all to make it a reality. Forca Barca, always!"
