Jenas Backs Arsenal to Swoop for Tonali and Rashford Ahead of Spurs

Arsenal have been tipped to make ambitious summer moves for two major targets, according to Jermaine Jenas, who reckons the Gunners can outmaneuver Tottenham and Manchester United in the transfer market.
Spurs have already tested Newcastle's resolve with an £80m offer for midfielder Sandro Tonali, but the Magpies have rebuffed the approach as they prepare for another Premier League campaign. Multiple sources suggest Tottenham remain keen on bringing the Italian to north London ahead of rival clubs.
Speaking to 10bet, Jelas made a compelling case for why Tonali would be an upgrade on Martin Zubimendi, who showed signs of fatigue as the season wore on. The former midfielder praised Tonali's control and game management: "He's a dictator of a game; he sets the pace and sets the tone every time he plays," pointing to his success both in the Premier League and previously at AC Milan.
However, Jelas stopped short of calling Tonali Arsenal's most pressing need. While acknowledging the quality on offer alongside Declan Rice, he suggested the club's ambitions should extend further forward. Young prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly also offers midfield depth, he noted.
"I still think they need a proper, out-and-out striker and a specialist on that left wing," Jelas added, suggesting Arsenal's transfer priorities ought to be more attacking-minded.
The conversation also turned to Rashford's future at Old Trafford. Having experienced football abroad at Barcelona, the forward faces an uncertain path back into Michael Carrick's plans. Jelas questioned whether a return to the bench served anyone's interests.
"I just think there comes a point where you have to move on," Jelas reasoned, while acknowledging Carrick's personal connection with Rashford might influence thinking. "Now that Marcus has experienced Barcelona, I think it's probably a better move for him to leave England or find a fresh start."
The suggestion that Rashford could depart England entirely adds another layer to the summer's transfer intrigue, with Arsenal potentially positioned to capitalize on United's complications.
