Arsenal Move for Roma Midfielder Kone as Gunners Accelerate Summer Business

Arsenal's summer recruitment drive has taken another turn, with fresh reports suggesting the Gunners have struck an agreement with AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone over personal terms.

The 24-year-old Frenchman, currently representing his country at the World Cup, sits high on Mikel Arteta's wishlist as the north London club looks to bolster their midfield options. According to Italian outlet Corriere della Sera, Arsenal have now ramped up their pursuit by moving towards submitting an official offer.

Roma, however, have made their position crystal clear: it will take €50 million (£43m) to prise Kone away from the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

Kone himself remains characteristically tight-lipped about his future, insisting his sole focus remains the World Cup campaign. "Honestly, right now I'm only thinking about the World Cup," he explained. "It's my first major international competition, a tournament I've always dreamed of playing in. I want to remain exclusively focused on this. We'll talk about the future after the World Cup and see what happens."

The move would represent another piece of the jigsaw for Arteta, who continues to reshape his squad following Arsenal's maiden Premier League title triumph in 22 years. While Inter Milan have also been tracking Kone's availability, the Gunners appear determined to win the race.

Midfield reinforcement has become something of a priority for the Gunners this summer. Mikel Arteta remains an admirer of Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, though the midfielder's long-term contract situation—Newcastle hold an extension option through 2030—makes any deal potentially prohibitive. Bournemouth's Alex Scott is another name on the club's radar.

In attacking areas, Arsenal continue to explore options across multiple positions. Reports suggest they are weighing up a move for Club Brugge forward Christos Tzolis, whilst their interest in Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola as potential marquee additions remains very much alive.
