Arsenal's £52m Bouaddi Bid Falls Short as Lille Demand £60m for Rising Star

Fresh off their first Premier League title in 22 years, Arsenal have wasted no time in plotting their summer recruitment strategy—though their opening gambit for one defensive target has already hit a wall.
The Gunners have tabled a €60m (£52m) proposal for Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi, only to have it swiftly rebuffed by the Ligue 1 outfit. Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are eager to land the 18-year-old midfielder before the World Cup gets underway, but Lille have made clear they view their prized asset as worth considerably more in today's market.
The north London club's Champions League heartbreak—Gabriel Magalhaes' missed penalty proving costly in the Paris Saint-Germain final—has done nothing to dampen their ambition in the window. Alongside Bouaddi, Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers as attacking reinforcements, with Bournemouth's Junior Kroupi also on their radar.
The recruitment drive extends to the youth market too. Transfer specialist Ben Jacobs reports that Arsenal are in negotiations with Leicester City for 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga, a prospect who has attracted as many as eight formal approaches from elite clubs across England and Europe. The fee could exceed £10m, with a tribunal potentially required to settle matters.
There's also the matter of central midfield reinforcement. Having signed Christian Norgaard last summer, the club has indicated willingness to listen to offers for the midfielder, who managed just one Premier League start and three Champions League appearances in his opening campaign.
Bouaddi, though, represents the immediate priority. The teenager has impressed sufficiently to earn Morocco's World Cup call-up, having recently broken through into Lille's first team and establishing himself as a cornerstone of their campaign. His €50m Transfermarkt valuation appears outdated in Lille's estimation, with the club now insisting on a minimum of €70m (£60m) to even consider a sale.
The midfielder had represented France at youth level before switching allegiance to Morocco following discussions with national team manager Mohamed Ouahbi. His inclusion in the World Cup squad has clearly boosted his profile—and Lille's asking price accordingly.
Speaking ahead of Morocco's opening fixture against Brazil on 13 June, Bouaddi expressed his enthusiasm for the tournament. "I was very happy," he said of his selection. "It is my first World Cup, and I am very proud to represent Morocco at the highest level. Our objective is to go as far as possible, reach the final, and win the trophy. We know that Brazil is a very strong team, but we are focusing on our work and our preparation."
For Arsenal, the question now becomes whether Lille will shift on their valuation, or if Arteta must redirect his midfield search elsewhere.
