Throughout much of this season, despite online criticism, the matchday faithful had largely remained behind their manager. The pundit believes the damage may already be done. Losing your crowd's support is a mountain few managers climb back up.

The threat looms large courtesy of Xabi Alonso's availability. Though the former Merseyside favourite couldn't quite deliver at Real Madrid before his January dismissal, his name alone would electrify the fanbase in a way Slot increasingly cannot. Steven Gerrard has also been mooted as a potential successor, with speculation growing about what his opening team sheet might look like.
