Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have emerged as the likeliest destination, with the Wanda Metropolitano club long-linked with the defender. Yet Romero has reportedly imposed a crucial stipulation: he will only contemplate the move if Diego Simeone remains in the dugout.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Argentine's attachment to Simeone is fundamental to any potential transfer. The shared tactical understanding and the manager's proven ability to maximise the defender's considerable qualities make Simeone's continued presence non-negotiable for Romero. Without that security, a switch to La Liga simply isn't worth considering—financial realities and transfer fees notwithstanding.
