Curtis Jones Given Blessing to Exit Liverpool as Inter Milan Circle

Curtis Jones is edging towards the Anfield exit, with the midfielder and his camp having signalled their approval for a summer switch away from Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has become surplus to requirements under Arne Slot's watch, reduced to a bit-part role over the past two seasons despite his academy pedigree and development into a capable Premier League operator. Valued at £30m across the market, Jones finds himself at a crossroads as his boyhood club's future plans no longer seem to include him as a regular starter.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that negotiations over a fresh deal beyond 2027 have ground to a halt, opening the door for an exit. Inter Milan, who tested the waters with an audacious January approach, now find themselves front-runners for his signature. According to Sportitalia, the Nerazzurri have secured the midfielder's green light, making a permanent summer transfer "definitely more feasible" than their previous flirtation. With just twelve months remaining on his Liverpool contract, the path appears increasingly clear.

Tottenham and Aston Villa represent alternative Premier League options, yet the Italian giants appear to have stolen a march. Inter's next move will centre on assembling an acceptable financial package, though Jones' willingness to depart has fundamentally altered the negotiating landscape.

Not everyone at Anfield is convinced of the wisdom in letting him go. Jermaine Pennant, a former Red himself, has made an impassioned case for retention. "We should keep him just for his versatility, it's great," the ex-winger told talkSPORT. "You can put him anywhere in the midfield or at right-back. You need that."

Pennant highlighted Jones' local roots and his value as a stabilising influence amid squad upheaval. "He's a local lad, he knows and loves the club, and he can help a lot of the players understand certain things as well," Pennant continued. "Ultimately, the last few games, he's been phenomenal – one of the top performers."

With key departures already reshaping Liverpool's squad—including Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit—Pennant believes retaining the academy product matters. "This squad is dwindling. There are a lot of key players leaving and you need to keep the core," he said. "Offer him a contract, and ultimately, it's up to him if he wants to go somewhere where he can play week in, week out, but all the club can do is offer."
